Geek Art/ Green Innovator's Festival
GA/GI Fest 5
The 5th Annual Geek Art/Green Innovator's Festival, also known as GA/GI (that's pronounced "gah-gee") returns to Pittsburgh's Penn Avenue Arts District, primarily between the 4800 and 5500 blocks, Friday, April 4, 2014. It will blend-or blur-right into the usual "Unblurred" First Fridays Penn Avenue Art Crawl. Friday, the Fest goes from 6 to 11 p.m., and spills over into Saturday, April 5, with "event X-tras."This free event takes its theme "Earth, Wind, and Fire" from nature's elements, and echoes the arrival of Earth Day later in the month. Celebrating the convergence of art and technology, GA/GI will appeal to those who love science, fashion, and art. And, did someone say, "grassroots"? Indeed, it's also an event for those who are passionate about being responsible stewards of the planet, and supporting causes like reducing our carbon footprint or shopping locally.
What can you expect at the festival? If past GA/GIs are any indicator, there will be displays of innovation by tech heads, artists, environmentalists, and musicians. Architects, video designers, do-it-yourself-ers-these fine folks and more will descend upon the celebration. Be sure to check out the Eco Fashion show, "Hotter Than Hell," which promises to be spicy, if the name is any indication. Most GA/GI events are family friendly. Special guests of the Fest will include the Pittsburgh Firefighters, who just might be needed if the fire hoops return. For more information, go to http://gagifest5.blogspot.com/.
